The Texas Young Democrats announced today that anti-Semitic socialist Ilhan Omar will speak at their convention in Austin next month. Aligning themselves with one of the most extreme members of Congress is an odd move as their increasingly radical party continues to pretend they can compete in conservative districts in Texas. Here’s a sampling of the hateful rhetoric Texas Democrats can expect to hear from Omar:
Omar on international support for Israel’s existence: “Israel has hypnotized the world.”
Omar accusing Jewish-Americans of bribing politicians: “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.”
Omar accusing Jewish-Americans of not being loyal Americans: we need “to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK to push for allegiance to a foreign country.”Bob Salera, “TX Young Dems invite anti-Semite to speak“, NRCC, April 29, 2019
It’s amazing that in this era of Omar and all her anti-Semitic tropes (“All about the Benjamins, baby,”), and now the New York Times’ repulsive anti-Semitic cartoon, it’s Trump who is branded as the ‘real’ anti-Semite, a projection if there ever was one. It reminds me of the style of anti-Semitism that has come out of Europe in recent decades, claiming that Jews, see, are the real Nazis.
Yet the evidence of President Trump’s philo-Semitism has always been there.
His favorite daughter is a convert to Judaism. He boldly moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to its correct capital, Jerusalem, in a deed that has eluded every past president — and, wildly enough, seems to have contributed to peace. He has a warm relationship with Israeli prime minister Bibi Netanyahu.Monica Showalter, “After Poway rabbi thanks Trump, can we now dispense with the canard that Trump is anti-Semitic?“, American Thinker, April 29, 2019
She prompted a response from President Trump, who tweeted in all-capital letters that “we will never forget” alongside a video showing images of the twin towers being hit and repeated clips of Ms. Omar’s ill-chosen words.
There were many substantive ways for Ms. Omar’s supporters to respond to this. They could have asked her to clarify her unwise comments while calling out Mr. Trump. But that’s not the route the left chose to take. Instead, they went in a depressingly predictable direction: they deployed the Islamophobia card. “We are stronger than this president’s hatred and Islamophobia,” tweeted former Rep. Beto O’Rourke. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, New York Democrat, tweeted, “It’s a false choice to suggest we can’t fight terrorism and reject Islamophobic hate.”Robin Simcox, “Left’s use of Islamophobia a cynical ploy to shut down disagreement“, Washington Times, 4/29/19
Criticizing Rep. Ilhan Omar for her persistent anti-Semitic remarks doesn’t constitute suppression of her right to free speech. It represents its exercise by others.Bradley R. Gitz, “Things I Believe“, Arkansas Democrat Gazette, April 29, 2019
I have also called out my own party on many occasions over the past year for failing to explicitly reprimand the blatantly anti-Semitic and anti-Israel rhetoric of Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.Doug Schoen, “Poway Synagogue shooting calls us to action — Anti-Semitism can’t be a political football“, Fox News, April 29, 2019
This failure has been a step backward for Democrats, and a missed opportunity to stand for what is right and to be at the forefront of this crucial issue.
Virtually every Western media outlet, cowed by political correctness, engages in self-censorship in respect to Islamic propaganda. Almost none is sufficiently courageous to challenge statements by even the most radical of Islamists. You can see that at work whenever CAIR, Ilhan Omar, or any other Islamist makes a statement.Jed Babbin, “Aloha Snackbar: Getting Serious About the Ideological War on Terror“, American Spectator, April 29, 2019
What does John Earnest have in common with Representative Ilhan Omar and the NYT Cartoon? He claims that Trump–and others deemed supportive of pro-Israel policies–are “traitorous.” He conflates Jews and anti-Semitic stereotypes with the State of Israel. His manifesto also used terminology that likened Jews to something less than human, and upheld his desire to “protect” the European race. Of course, the far-right puts out its own anti-Semitic tropes and theories without necessarily needing the assistance of their Islamist and far-left counterparts. It’s likely that Earnest had long believed in this ideology of his own volition, and that the NYT cartoon had no impact on whether or not he would have committed this act of terror.
Earnest, Omar, and the NYT perfectly demonstrate how anti-Semitism operates in modern times. On one end, you have far-left and/or Islamist-leaning actors–Omar and the NYT–spreading anti-Semitic tropes and then feigning victim-status, innocence, ignorance, or progressivism. On the other end, you have a White Supremacist with far-right political orientations (Earnest) who believes these tropes and acts violently upon them.Dmitri Shufutinsky, “Admit It–NYT is Complicit in Poway“, Times of Israel, April 29, 2019
In February, Omar retweeteda post discussing how she and Tlaib were facing punishment from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for criticizing Israel. She added, “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.” Benjamins refers to $100 bills, which feature Benjamin Franklin. It was a reference to Jews and money. The phrase comes from a song with the same name by Puff Daddy, who sang about money and used the word Hebrews in one version of the song. Only after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., ordered Omar to apologize, did she retract her tweet.Rachel Alexander, “Explosion of Anti-Semitism on the Left“, Townhall, April 29, 2019
In real world, Omar is pretty much now a full-blown anti-Semite—and an anti-Semite condemning…anti-Semitism is just wrong. But, as Grabien’s Tom Elliott noted, an anti-Semite who then lectures us about…anti-Semitism is just…there’s no shame. The irony is extreme.Matt Vespa, “You Can’t Make This Up: There’s Some Irony About Ilhan Omar’s Tweet About CA Synagogue Shooting“, Townhall, April 29, 2019
